How we picked these tanks
“Best” means consistently strong in random battles for an average-to-good player: a blend of gun performance, armor layout, mobility, versatility and forgiveness. Balance patches shuffle the meta every few months, so treat this as a snapshot — but the tanks below have been meta staples for years, not flavor-of-the-month picks. Reward and clan-war vehicles are excluded; everything here is a normal tech tree or premium tank you can actually obtain.
Best tier 10 heavy tanks
Object 277 (Soviet)
The gold standard of aggressive heavies: a 122 mm gun with excellent APCR penetration, good gun handling and enough turret armor to bully ridgelines, on a hull fast enough to keep up with mediums. It trades the raw armor of a super-heavy for tempo — you decide where the fight happens.
Vz. 55 (Czechoslovak)
A two-shot autoloader on a heavily armored hull. The burst deletes 980 HP in two seconds, which wins corner fights outright. The catch: the intra-clip reload punishes impatient players — trade, retreat behind cover, reload, repeat.
Maus (German)
2,000+ HP, 200+ mm of side armor you can sidescrape forever. The Maus anchors flanks and stalls pushes single-handedly. Slow and farmable when isolated, but a fortress with teammates behind it.
Also strong: IS-4 (flexible all-rounder), T110E5 (great gun, great turret), WZ-111 5A (Chinese take on the 277 formula).
Best tier 10 medium tanks
Leopard 1 (German)
The premier sniper medium: laser accuracy, huge APCR penetration, 65 km/h speed. Fragile hull, so it rewards positioning — perfect for players who like dealing damage from second-line angles. See our medium tank guide for the playstyle.
Object 140 (Soviet)
Low profile, excellent turret, gun depression comfortable enough for ridgework. The 140 does everything adequately and some things brilliantly — the safest first tier 10 medium in the game.
STB-1 (Japanese)
Exceptional gun depression (–14°) and a rapid autoreloader-like feel make it the king of hilly maps. Hull-down behind a ridge, it’s nearly unmovable.
Best tier 10 tank destroyers
T110E3 (American)
Nearly 300 mm of frontal armor and a devastating 155 mm gun. The E3 walks at you and there is very little the enemy can do. Slow traverse means positioning mistakes are punished — read our TD guide first.
Grille 15 (German)
On the opposite end: a glass cannon with superb accuracy and 750 alpha. Map knowledge is your armor.
Object 268 (Soviet)
Blends a strong upper plate, stealth and high alpha into the classic assault-TD formula. Forgiving and consistently effective.
Best tier 10 light tanks
Panhard EBR 105 (French)
The wheelie’s speed and camo on the move break the spotting meta wide open. Highest skill ceiling in the class — and the most hated when played well. Newcomers to scouting should start with the tier X German or Soviet tracked lights instead (light tank guide).
Which one should YOU grind?
- First tier 10 ever: Object 140 (medium) or IS-4 (heavy) — forgiving, versatile.
- Carry potential: Vz. 55 or Object 277.
- Passive, relaxed play: Leopard 1 or Grille 15.
- Line value: the Czech heavy line and Soviet medium lines are strong at almost every tier.
Whichever you pick, make sure your crew and equipment are properly set up — a tier 10 with a 75% crew is a paperweight.
